TRAIL RIDES on the beach and through inland forest of oaks dripping in spanish moss - A must do while visiting Daufuskie Island

Sallie Ann Robinson was one of the students actually taught by Pat Conroy during his year teaching on Daufuskie Island in the early 60s. The story of that year is what is covered by his book "The Water is Wide" and later made into the movie "Conrack".  Sallie Ann's enthusiasm for her island home is practically boundless and you will learn much about the culture and traditions of Daufuskie from this tour. (And you could get an autographed cookbook too)   If you manage to take part in one of her outings you'll never forget it.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

DAUFUSKIE ISLAND SELF-GUIDED TOURS:  If you do an unguided tour with a company like Daufuskie Carts, you will be greeted personally by a company representative who will tell you all about the island, give you an island map annotated with historical facts, and point out Daufuskie's restaurants, beaches and shops.  Then you will spend your day doing what you want to do.  You could add an "Audio Tour Guide," and Audio History of Daufuskie which follows the museum map (just $10).  No matter what you do, your "self-guided" tour will be an adventure.  For more information, call (843) 341-2327.   **Gas Carts are not welcomed in all neighborhoods of Daufuskie so please be respectful**

BICYCLE ADVENTURES:  Pick up the foundation's historical guide at the Billy Burns Museum (843) 686-4824.  The guide includes a map which highlights historical points of interest, and includes a brief summary of the significance of each location including the Billie Burn Museum, The Gullah Learning Center, tabby ruins, historic cemeteries & homes, and old logging railroad line.  Then take off on your bicycles for a biking adventure.
